Residency
How long does it take to get the UAE investor visa?
Direct answer: 10 to 14 business days from licence approval to Emirates ID in hand — with only 3 to 5 days on UAE soil. Here is the detailed timeline and the factors that decide whether you land on the fast or slow end of that range.
Typical timeline
Day 0–3 — Document preparation
Before any formal request, we gather: passport (valid >6 months), white-background photo, application form, proof of address in country of origin. For Free Zones with robust KYC, bank statements and CV are also gathered. This phase, with a well-prepared dossier, closes in 3 days.
Day 3–7 — Licence + Establishment Card
The Free Zone issues the commercial licence (Trade Licence) and the Establishment Card (required by immigration). In RAKEZ, IFZA and Meydan: 3 to 5 business days. In JAFZA: up to 7 days.
Day 7–10 — Entry Permit
With the licence in hand, the Free Zone issues the electronic Entry Permit. Time: 2 to 4 business days. With this document you enter the UAE to complete the process.
Day 10–14 — Travel to UAE + biometrics + Emirates ID
On Emirati soil, the sequence is:
- "Status change" — convert Entry Permit to residency. 1 day.
- VIP medical exam (3h) or Standard (48h). 1 to 2 days.
- Biometrics + photo + signature at ICA. 1 day.
- Physical Emirates ID issuance. 5 to 7 business days (mail or in-person pickup).
Realistic total
From signing your contract with us to having your Emirates ID in hand: 14 to 18 calendar days, or 10 to 14 business days. Only 3 to 5 of those days physically in the UAE.
What can accelerate
- VIP package — 3h medical exam instead of 48h, status change with priority, Emirates ID fast-track.
- Free Zone with digital flow — IFZA, RAKEZ and Meydan have faster processes than older jurisdictions.
- Complete dossier from the start — any missing document delays the process by 2-3 days.
- Travel with date flexibility — schedule exam and biometrics on consecutive days vs. waiting for slots.
What can delay
- Passport with less than 6 months — blocks the request until a new one is issued.
- Additional KYC by the Free Zone — some request a video interview for specific profiles.
- Name discrepancies between passport, country-of-origin documents and forms.
- UAE holiday periods — Ramadan, Eid, National Day reduce administrative speed by ~40%.
- Occupational health — if the medical exam identifies any of the listed cases, there are additional protocols. Rare but happens.
What about family visas?
Family sponsorship starts after issuance of your Emirates ID. Each dependant follows a parallel process: family Entry Permit → medical exam → biometrics → dependant Emirates ID. Time: typically 10 business days per dependant, with flexibility to do all in parallel.
For spouse + 2 children, plan an additional 2 weeks after your own process.
